Are You Running Snow Leopard Yet?
By Thomas Ward
As you may or may not know, I am currently a Windows PC users. Deep inside me, however, beats the heart of a Mac fanboy. I love all of their products, so much as to “Hackintosh” my Dell Inspiron 1501 (which now runs Windows 7 Release Candidate) to run Mac OSX Tiger. So, you could only imagine my excitement when Apple announced that they would be releasing a new operating system, dubbed Snow Leopard, this year.
Now, Snow Leopard has been unleashed unto the public, and I am hearing nothing but good reviews about it. However, many of these reviews have come from longtime Mac users, who already know the joy and wonder that is Mac OSX.
On the flipside, I have also been hearing some negative reviews, namely referring to security issues related to the Adobe Flash software. While I’m not entirely clued in as to what the situation is, it seems to be a major gripe amongst OSX users. Such a gripe, in fact, that Apple is already working on a security update, dubbed Snow Leopard 10.6.1.
I have also come to notice that most of these reviews, whether it is negative or positive, has come from longtime Mac OSX users, who have known the joy and wonder that are Apple products for some time. The reviews I’m most interested in would be the ones that come from longtime Windows users who have recently (or, at least, somewhat recently) made the transition from the Windows platform to Mac OSX Snow Leopard.
I also want to know how Snow Leopard compares to the likes of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. By compares, I don’t mean “Apple rocks, Microsoft sucks” type of stuff. I mean, is Snow Leopard actually faster and more secure than Windows 7? Is it really easier to upgrade from Mac OSX Leopard than it is to upgrade from Windows Vista (or XP, for some people)?
Which operating system are you most likely to buy, if at all? Are you happy with your current computer setup, or will you be upgrading to the next great operating system?
